INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING

INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING (ARC30805)

First impressions about the module, I thought intro to drawing was an abstract and freeform drawing. But in this module, it was more of learning technical drawings. The whole point of this module is to introduce us to technical drawings of building and places like Plan View, Floor Plans, Elevations and even Section drawing. Being given a site plan to build our chalet really gave us the chance to explore our creativity and skillset to display how we would work with it.

Part of the journey was also learning about using different scales, such as 1:50, 1:100, 1:20, 1:30. We were taught which scales were common and which are not, giving us an insight of which people find easier to see and understand the drawings. Not to mention, a very important aspect of this module was line weight. It enables the other people to see depth or importance of certain things in a drawing such as walls and gridlines, one uses 0.5 and the other uses 0.05. With all of that, in my opinion, I believe that this module has taught me a lot about technical drawings and to be very specific and emphasis on the smallest details. Every details counts when it comes to something so specific. To me, introduction to drawing is the most important module in semester 2 in FNBE!

 CONCLUSIONS AND THOUGHTS

After finishing all 3 of the intro to drawing assignment, there is a lot to take back and learn. There are things like line weight, hatching, composition, scales and etc. Many of it contributes to how we convey or translate a drawing to viewers. It can be said that it is also another form of language, if we do not master it, people wouldn't understand the drawings. Graphic communication is important as there are things where we cannot explain but only can be understood by seeing and observing.

There were times when the assignment was tough only because of bad time management and resulting in not the best work produced. However, I still manage to pull through with the help of Ms Ann. Problem solving and being flexible is very important, in that sense where we can adapt to any changes and I think that is important. With that, this module has taught me many things and I believe I can continue to use it as I continue in semester 3 or even degree as these are the fundamental basic of technical drawing.
